Classes

Alexander Technique lessons target unconscious, unnecessary, and unwanted effort. Being able to choose your effort results in greater relaxation and coordination, more energy, a sense of well-being and lightness, and improves posture, eyesight, digestion, breathing, and more.

In order to unlearn the unconscious habits that lead to overeffort, one-on-one work is best. In sessions customized to your needs, I’ll work with you, using a combination of gentle hands-on and verbal instructions, guiding you through the basic building blocks of movement (sitting, standing, lifting an arm, lying down, etc.)

Working on these simple, familiar movements empowers you to notice and change undesirable physical and mental habits in everyday life, no matter how complex the activity. From chronic pain to the performing arts, from office workers to athletes: I can help you recognize what you're doing that causes you pain, and teach you how to stop it. Permanently.

Because AT is an active process of physical and mental re-education, and you’ve been ‘training’ in your current habits for decades, I recommend people commit to lesson packages. I understand this isn’t right for everyone; however, permanent changes take time.

Lessons are purchased in packages of 6. While progress is highly individual -- based on your needs, problems, and goals -- students typically advance like this:

  • Introductory work: 6 lessons

  • Beginner: 6 - 12 lessons

  • Intermediate: 12 - 24 lessons

  • Advanced and special practices: 24+ lessons

Workshops

Group workshops are a great, inexpensive opportunity to learn more about the technique and get a taste of whether it’s right for you, and often feature exclusive discounts on personal lessons.

At an introductory workshop, you will learn about FM Alexander, how he developed the technique, and how you can apply the technique to your everyday life.I will teach you an exercise you can do everyday to reset your spine, releasing back tension and counteracting slumping. You’ll have the opportunity to experience and observe mini-lessons involving sitting and standing, giving you a greater understanding of how you’re using your body when you’re not paying attention.

I also offer workshops covering a variety of advanced or specialized subjects, and can tailor one to meet the needs of your group.

Highly recommended for corporate offices, health care training programs, and public speaking professionals.
